Student Critics at EIFF 2018

Our aspiring film critics attended press screenings, wrote reviews and received daily mentor sessions from established industry professionals. Their mentors provided them with one on one and group feedback on their writing and offered advice on how to develop their work and build a career in film criticism. This year our Student Critics were also able to attend a workshop on Broadcast Journalism and get practical tips on surviving a Film Festival from their mentors.

Our mentors for EIFF 2018 were Amber Wilkinson (Eye For Film, The Times, The Telegraph, The Daily Record), Jonathan Romney (The Observer, Sight & Sound, Film Comment, National Film and Television School), Rhianna Dhillon (BBC Radio 2, BAFTA Guru Podcast, Penguin, BFI, BBC Radio 1Xtra) and Simran Hans (The Observer, Dazed, Little White Lies, Buzzfeed).

Our 2018 cohort of Student Critics came from across Scotland and the rest of the UK, as we we once again welcomed two Polish students in recognition of EIFF's close ties to European cinema, demonstrated annually in our European Perspectives strand. Our Student Critics for EIFF 2018 were:
